The Role of the Staff
There are many different roles at Internship in Palestine to support the wide variety of work that we do – each of them contributes to the smooth functioning of all the centerās activities.
Our educational staff support the teaching of Arabic to international volunteers and students and English instruction to the local community. For Arabic, they teach a variety of dialects – Modern Standard Arabic, Levantine, Shami, and Ammiya – at levels ranging from beginner to advanced. Internship in Palestineās affordable and accessible English classes attract many young people from around Hebron to attend class or even just come and practice speaking with our international volunteers. Every year, the Center helps to educate around 300 local students.Ā
Another big role is the coordination of international volunteers. The Center accepts people all year round for varying lengths of time, meaning there is always someone coming or going. The staff helps coordinate everything from pre-departure to onward travel, making sure everything is arranged for their stay. This includes arrival support, accommodation, orientation, settling in, and getting people started in their programs.
Staff at the Center also arrange and coordinate all the program activities for each volunteer. They plan the program content, work with local partners to establish relationships, coordinate visits to places like refugee camps and local villages, and ensure every interaction is safe and for the benefit of the community.
Finally, staff at the center also coordinate all administrative and logistical support, dealing with the day-to-day needs of the center, preparing breakfast in the mornings, and making sure everything runs smoothly.

How the Staff Supports Volunteers & Students
Before they even arrive, staff at the Center support volunteers with any questions they have about travelling to Palestine, coming down to Hebron, and how to get a visa. On arrival, volunteers are provided with comfortable accommodation close to the Center and given a comprehensive orientation, including many invitations to tea or a hot meal with the staff.
Breakfast is provided daily by the wonderful Khitam, who always lays a delicious spread of shakshuka, olive oil and zaāatar, avocado, hummus, and labna – all served with tea and coffee. The first week is dedicated to showing new volunteers around their new home, including the bustling Ein Sara Street, the old city, the Ibrahimi mosque, and some local hand-made craft stores.Ā
As volunteers settle in, staff coordinate all of their program activities and are available to answer any other questions, or provide support and advice for traveling on the weekends. They have a wealth of knowledge about the local customs and culture, but also the political situation, and are able to answer anything you might ask about the reality of life under occupation.
Testimonials from Volunteers & Students
Our staff are excellent – but donāt just take our word for it! Read some of the glowing reviews weāve had from volunteers from around the world:
āThe staff here, and the teachers, are fantastic. I had Arabic lessons with Duha, and just with three weeks at 1-2 hours a day, I am now able to have a (fairly simple) conversation in Arabic with Palestinians here in Hebron.ā Sara, 25, United States.Ā
āI spent a month participating in the Human Rights Program. The staff of Internship in Palestine, especially my Arabic teacher Duha, were incredible. They are all patient and understanding. Also, the traditional Palestinian breakfast every morning was something I always looked forward to. It was always made with love and was a great introduction to Arabic dishes. All of us were also welcome to have dinner or tea with Osama and Marwa at their home, which I always loved.ā Kayleigh, 29, United States.Ā

Arabic & English Teachers at Internship in Palestine
Our Arabic teachers consistently get great feedback about their teaching. There are a few things that we think make them really special:
- Our teachers are passionate and experienced educators, fluent in English and with Arabic as their mother tongue. They bring great energy and patience to all their classes, making a positive and challenging learning environment that gets fast results, with a special focus on speaking Arabic that isnāt found in many university courses.
- From one-on-one lessons to group discussions and real-life conversational practice, teachers adapt to different learning needs. Some teachers will take you to get coffee so you can apply your Arabic in real life by ordering. Whatever your level or learning style, they are able to match you.
- The teachers not only educate but also act as mentors, helping students connect with Palestinian culture and language in a meaningful way. They sometimes invite students to come to their homes for coffee or dinner, or to meet their families.
